Rev. Father Andrew Abhulime of St. Mary Catholic Church, Igegomo, Ijegun, Lagos, has implored angry youths to shelve their second phase of #EndBadGovernance protest slated for October 1st 2024, and seek other ways to express their grievances against mismanagement and maladministration in Nigeria.

Rev Fr. Abhulime who spoke through Rev. Fr. Amos Irabor, admitted that the country is currently in a total mess, and the youths have legitimate reasons to express their grievances against bad governance. He said if not for sponsored counter-protesters and the brutality of the military personnel against peaceful protesters, it would be ideal to hit the streets the second time as they have the right to do so.

The priest made this known during the Annual Adult Harvest and Thanksgiving Bazaar of the church. He said it was also advisable for both the government and the governed to weigh their options and their consequences before anything else.

Speaking on the theme on the theme: “Harvest of Divine Favour,” Rev Fr Rev Fr. Abhulime admonished Christians in the country to not only acknowledge God, but appreciate Him for His Divine favour and mercy on their lives amid excruciating economic hardship.

“We need to appreciate God who favours us daily. Ember months are not characterised as evil, but the Lord will still see us through”

He urged the government to be sensitive to the plight of Nigerians by way of addressing the demands of angry Nigerians saying: “As we begin the last quarter of the year, we have to be prayerful while travelling. There is hunger; Nigerians are suffering; we can’t castigate the government, however,   they must govern well.”

Similarly, the vice chairman of the church, Christopher Olumba, affirmed that it was expected from church leaders to help congregants as the Holy Bible instructs the children of God to start from the household of God in any charity act they embark.

The Chairperson of the Harvest Organising committee, Mrs. Amaka Obiefuna, expressed happiness that despite the situation of Nigeria, the faithful still express their love for God going by the participation of member of the church.
