China pledges to implement 13 key agreements from Tinubu’s state visit

China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has committed to ensuring the implementation of all agreements signed between Nigeria and China during President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to China.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, Ambassador Yu discussed the outcomes of the visit and the President’s participation in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
He emphasized that he would actively collaborate with various sectors to ensure the success of these agreements and bring the envisioned projects to reality.
Yu noted that both Chinese and Nigerian government officials signed a total of 13 cooperation agreements during the visit.
These agreements span a variety of sectors, including high-quality Belt and Road cooperation planning, the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, economic growth, human resources development, and the application of the Beidou Satellite Navigation System.

Other areas include the export of peanuts to China and media exchanges.
“One of the bilateral cooperation documents includes around 19 projects that China and Nigeria are either currently cooperating on or planning to cooperate on,” Yu stated. He also mentioned that numerous additional cooperation agreements were signed between Nigerian state governments, relevant departments, and Chinese companies during the visit.
Ambassador Yu expressed optimism about the agreements, noting that they reflect the growing and vibrant relationship between Nigeria and China.
He also stressed the importance of following through on the commitments to ensure that they result in tangible outcomes.
Charles Onunaiju, Director of the Centre for China Studies in Nigeria, also spoke at the event, reiterating Nigeria’s dedication to ensuring the agreements are implemented sustainably. He pointed to institutional mechanisms, such as the newly-formed Office of the President on Policy Coordination, which will oversee accountability and track the progress of these deals.
