LAGOS – The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) on Thursday held the second edition of its Generation Next Forum in Lagos. The event, which aims to inspire, equip, and empower young professionals and entrepreneurs, was themed “Digital Transformation and Sustainable Development: Empowering the Next Generation.”
In his opening remarks, the President and Chairman of CIBN’s Council, Professor Pius Deji Olanrewaju, emphasised the importance of youth engagement in driving sustainable growth in Nigeria. He noted that the forum serves as a platform for the next generation to harness opportunities in the evolving digital landscape while confronting challenges.
“The success of the maiden edition of the Generation Next Forum still resonates with us. Last year, young talents participated with great enthusiasm and eagerness to connect, learn, and grow. Addressing the forum’s theme, he highlighted the significant opportunities available at the intersection of digital transformation and sustainable development. “As written by Evan LePage, “The future of business is digital, the future of digital is now.’ At this intersection lies an incredible opportunity to empower our youth as leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” he said.
The event featured distinguished speakers, including the Managing Director/CEO of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Mr. Bello Hassan, who was lauded for his commitment to financial stability and regulatory excellence in Nigeria’s banking system. Professor Olanrewaju acknowledged his efforts in fostering trust and building a sustainable banking ecosystem.
Professor Olanrewaju reiterated CIBN’s commitment to youth empowerment, citing his strategic focus on the LEGACY mantra as the 23rd President and Chairman of Council. “We are deeply committed to ensuring that our young people are equipped with knowledge and have access to the networks, resources, and mentorship that can guide them on their paths to success,” he remarked.
He urged the students, youth corps members, and young professionals in attendance to engage deeply with the forum, ask questions, and embrace new ideas that could shape their future careers and societal impact.
The Generation Next Forum, initiated by CIBN, aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and mentorship to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators, aligning with the institute’s vision for a digitally empowered and sustainable Nigeria.
