KANO – The Federal High Court sitting in Kano, has again, refused to grant application filed to stop the conduct of local government election in the state.
In an exparte motion filed by one Engr. Muhammed Babayo, a factional member of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) sought interim injunction to stop the process slated for 26th October.
In the suit The plaintiffs, through their lawyer, Dalhatu Shehu Usman is challenging Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC); Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, (KANSIEC); Inspector General of Police IGP; and Director General, Department of Security Service.
The plaintiffs are seeking the court to grant an order stopping the election pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice. Also, they want the court to direct both sides of the parties to maintain status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
Justice Simon Amobeda in the ruling turned down all the prayers of the plaintiffs. Justice Amobeda however directed the plaintiffs to urgently put the respondents on notice to show cause why prayers against them should not be granted.

Justice S.A Amobeda also ordered that the hearing of the suit is abridged to 72 hours from the service of the order of the court and the processes and that the time of filing of all other subsequent processes by the parties is equally abridged to 48 hours from the service of the same.
The presiding Judge thereby adjourned the matter to 16th, 2024, for hearinghearing on the substantive matter.
Meanwhile, state Chairman of the NNPP, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa said the decision of the court has further restored hope in the judicial system in ensuring justice, fareness and equity.
Reacting to the ruling of the court, the party Chairman said Engr. Babayo’s attempt to stop a lawful process has failured because of his destructive motive. Dungurawa added that Babayo and his cohorts will continue to fail in all attempt to obstruct the council election.
The NNPP Chairman who expressed optimism to clinch the 44 chairmanship and councillors seats in Kano urged Kano residents to remain focus and avoid distraction being perpetrated by the opposition party.
