OGUN – As the maiden Covenant University Conference on Leadership and Development (CUCLeD) ended on Friday, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof Abiodun Adebayo has reiterated that the institution’s enduring commitment and vision to raise a new generation of leaders that will take bold steps towards transforming Africa and rewrite the story of the Blackman is achieving results.
Prof Adebayo spoke during the three-day conference which was held at the institution’s College of Leadership and Development Studies (CLDS) themed: “Integrating Leadership and Development for Africa”.
Speaking further at the Conference on Leadership and Development that attracted over 160 abstracts, 81 full papers and three keynote speakers from 57 universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and educational resources centres across Nigeria, Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States Of America, the VC assured that Covenant University would continually be at the forefront of the call on Africa to redefine its place on the global space, saying the continent requires leaders who understand that the choices we make today will shape the future we leave for generations to come.
He said, “The future is full of possibilities, and Covenant University is strategically

developing leaders who are not just reactive but proactive, who are not just efficient but transformative. Our
commitment to excellence in
education is matched only by our commitment to nurturing value driven leadership that seeks to improve lives and communities,

through the conference …. Let this platform serve as a catalyst for new ideas, transformative partnerships, and innovative solutions that will move us
closer to a sustainable future and build the Africa we like to see.
He added, “Moreover, our doors are open to opportunities for research collaboration with universities, research institutes, and other stakeholders.”
The Registrar, Mrs Regina Tobi-David said leadership goes beyond just holding positions, saying it is about vision, courage and the committment to make a difference in the lives of the people.

She said, “No doubt, there is leadership crises in Africa which has impacted on the development of the continent.
“The complex leadership challenges facing Africa today, from economic growth and poverty reduction to climate change and social inequality are real and staring us on our faces. Yet, we also recognise the immense opportunities for
innovation, collaboration, and
progress.”
The Dean, College of Leadership and Development Studies (CLDS), Dr. Jonathan Odukoya said the conference was in tandem with the vision of the university as many of the current challenges facing African countries are not unconnected with leadership.
The Chairman of CUCLeD 2024 Organising Committee, Prof Moses Duruji thanked the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo for his vision that has been driving the institution, the Vice Chancellor for his leadership qualities, and the Board of Regents for their support.
To the participants, he said, “Thank you for your invaluable
contribution to this transformative journey. Your participation is a testament to your commitment to shaping a brighter, more sustainable
future for Africa, Together, we can make a difference.
Among the conference speakers are Distinguished Professor/President, Philosophical Association of Nigeria, Jim Ijenwa; Dr Ifeyinwa Nwakwesi, Chairman and CEO of HLS Growth Mindset and Integrative Lifestyle Academy and Mr Adegoke Omotola, son of former Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Late Prof. Jelili Omotola.
Among others are two alumnus of the institution in persons of Funto Ibuoye, a 2010 Accounting graduate of the university and CEO of Five28 and Timi Ajayi, a Partner at Primeridge Real Estate Limited.
