The Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals (AERMP) has urged the Federal and state governments in Nigeria to take immediate risk-mitigating measures against the resurgence of COVID-19.

The body noted that a recent outbreak in Singapore, a country with a robust healthcare system, serves as a stark reminder of the virus’s unpredictability and potential for rapid spread.

It urged governments at all levels to: enhance surveillance by reinforcing COVID-19 surveillance at all entry points, including airports, seaports, and land borders.

The association suggested reinvigorating testing by scaling up COVID-19 testing, including PCR and rapid antigen tests, to quickly identify and isolate cases.

It also advised vaccination boost by intensifying vaccination efforts, focusing on high-risk groups, and consider booster shots for those previously vaccinated.

Furthermore, the association advised reinforcing of infection prevention and control by strengthening IPC measures in healthcare facilities, schools, and public spaces.

In its words: “Prepare Healthcare Infrastructure by ensuring adequate hospital capacity, oxygen supply, and medical personnel to handle potential surges.

“Promote Public Awareness by launching targeted campaigns to educate the public on COVID-19 risks, prevention, and response.

“Collaborate and Coordinate by fostering interagency collaboration and coordinate with international partners to share intelligence and best practices,” it said.

The association noted that time is of the essence as the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that preparedness and swift action are crucial to mitigating its impact.

“We cannot afford to be complacent. Let us work together to protect Nigeria from the resurgence of COVID-19”, said the association.
