The police command in Cross River is to deploy artificial intelligence to fight crime.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Gyogon Grimah, gave the assurance during a visit of DIG Sokari-Pedro Daniel supervising South South of the Nigeria Police Force to the command on Friday.
Grimah said that no fewer than 12 personnel of the command were being trained for the purpose, by consultants from Lagos State.
According to him, a drone procured by the state government for the command would soon be put to use to that effect.
“As we speak, simulation exercise to put this drone to use is being carried out. This is part of efforts at combating crime, especially kidnapping.
“We have robust relationships with sister security agencies and the state government, which has been very supportive.
“Aside the drone procured for the command, the state government has embarked on landscaping of the command’s headquarters,” he said.
Grimah said that kidnapping had been brought to the barest minimum in the state.
He appealed to well-meaning individuals and organisations to give logistics support to the command.
He said that the command was in urgent need of vehicles to traverse the nooks and crannies of the state to curb crime.
He decried the activities of Ambazonian fighters from Cameroon.
“Another challenge is the intrusion of illegal miners in parts of the state,” he said.
Earlier, Daniel said that the Ambazonian fighters from Cameroon would soon be treated as invaders of the country.
Daniel commended the command for becoming artificial-intelligence complainant in combating crime, and appealed for more support from state governors to enable the police to fight crime more effectively in their respective states.
“I acknowledge the fact that the topography of Cross River is a difficult one, but the police can do it best,” he said.
