The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission CROSIEC and the state chapter of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC have synergized ahead of the local government elections.
This follows a familiarization visit by the State chapter of IPAC to the leadership of CROSIEC in the state.
Speaking during the visit, the chairman of CROSIEC, Dr Ekong Edet Boco described IPAC as one of the building blocs for sustainable democracy.
Dr Boco said election is not war but only a way of selecting our leaders and should be done in a rancour free environment through the support of IPAC who are the owners of political parties.
“I plead with you as the doors are opened and you go to the field, please take the message to your members.
“We don’t need to fight each other, you need to talk to our people to support your candidate and then the best will be selected from amongst us.
“We are saddled with the responsibility of conducting local government elections and we assure you that will do it right”, he said.
He promised that he and his team will bring their wealth of experience to bear in the conduct of the forthcoming local government elections in the state and promise to give all the parties a level playing field.
Earlier, the State Chairman of IPAC Engr.Edet Effiom said the visit was to familiarize themselves with the leadership of the Commission.
He reiterated their readiness to play their role in ensuring the conduct of a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in the state.
Former chairman of IPAC Comrade Anthony Bissong Attah appealed to the commission to commence the process of bringing out the election calendar stating that they were not out to monitor the Commission’s process but to work on partnership with them.
