Adekunle who disclosed that the state had recorded two deaths and three suspected cases this year, assured residents that the disease is not as deadly as being escalated.

He said, “We can authoritatively that we had two cases this year. One was in January before I became the Permanent Secretary and another one was reported recently. Presently we have three suspected cases, i.e., their blood sample has not been confirmed.”

Adekunle further explained that diphtheria is not like Covid 19, stating that “we don’t quarantine suspect, so, there is no reason for anybody to be panicking.

“It is our children who are not immunized that are at risk. My clarion call to the people is that there is no need to panic. If there is any of our children that has not been immunized, they should go for immunization immediately. If some have had partial immunization, they have to quickly go and complete the immunization irrespective of their age,” Adekunle added.
