Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has called on residents to warmly welcome National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to their communities by helping them adapt to local customs and languages. He made the appeal during the closing ceremony for the 2024 Batch B, Stream 2 orientation at the NYSC Permanent Camp in Boro Town, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

Represented by Dr. Wisdom Poyeri, his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, the governor assured the Corps members of their safety and well-being while noting that the people of Bayelsa are known for their hospitality.

He also encouraged the Corps members to seize the abundant opportunities in the state, emphasizing that creativity, hard work, and innovation would help them succeed.

Governor Diri urged the Corps members to see their service year not just as a requirement but as a chance to leave a lasting impact on their host communities. He encouraged them to serve as role models to local youth and students, helping to shape the next generation of responsible citizens and leaders.

In addition, the governor welcomed them to enjoy the rich cultural experiences and delicacies of Bayelsa, while congratulating them on completing their orientation course. He wished them a successful year of service.

Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli-Charity, the Bayelsa NYSC State Coordinator, praised the Corps members and camp officials for their discipline and teamwork, which contributed to a smooth orientation process.

She reminded them to report promptly to their primary assignments and to settle in quickly to provide meaningful service to their host communities.

She cautioned against risky behaviors, such as traveling at night or without life jackets when crossing rivers, and advised them to avoid negative use of social media.

She also reminded the Corps members of the importance of the Community Development Service (CDS) and encouraged them to identify the needs of their communities and work on impactful projects.

The state government and the NYSC, she said, have put together a reward system to honor outstanding Corps members at the end of their service year. Mrs. Obiageli-Charity expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government for its continued support of the welfare and security of Corps members.

The event concluded with a colorful parade, cheers from the Corps members, and the distribution of posting letters for their assignments.
