Chides Locals Over Women Right Abuses
A university lecturer with the federal University,Birnin Kebbi, professor Asabe Kabir has lambasted locals who constantly deny women their social and economic rights as equals to their male counterparts.
The professor of African literature stated that women in this part of the country who advocates equal rights across genders are leveled by locals as feminist.
She added that, her advocacy seen as feminism is far detached with wester radical feminism which is in conflict with the major religions Islam and Christianity that seeks to equal women in inheritance sharing ” as far as i know islam has made good for provision for women rights in all spheres of human endeavours unlike some cultures that permits younger brother to inherit the wife of his late brother and so on and so forth “.
Professor Kabir, added that despite bashing and the stigma attached to her advocacy for equal economic and social balance for women to have access to good education and to assist them get economic viability to help in the upkeep of the family she will remain undeterred till all women particularly in the north know their rights as equal Souls to male gender in the society.
She said inadequate education from mothers has been responsible for the high number of girls out of school hence the reason to sustain the advocacy to ensure men allow their wives and female children get at least the basic education to assist them get an economic stand to help them run their matrimonial home, Kabir who declined to answer whether she is a feminist said that she remain opposed to people who trample on the rights of women in whatever guise or society they belong.
