A Professor of Gender and Rural Development, Grace Adebo, has called for the establishment of a rural bank for women development as part of efforts to empower the female gender towards a sustainable rural development.
Adebo, who said women in the rural areas lack the economic capacity to lead good lives or engage in sustainable farming and other life-enhancing economic activities, advocated encouragement for women cooperative groups for them to fill the gap of being individually weak economically.
The don spoke at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday while delivering her inaugural lecture with the title, ‘De-escalating grassroots gender poverty: Imperatives for sustainable rural development agenda in Nigeria’.
