Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki said he would not want to be remembered for the many battles he fought after leaving office but for his numerous achievements in repositioning the state.

The outgoing governor made the remarks while answering questions from newsmen after the commissioning of the Airport Road Parks and Garden in Benin City.

Obaseki, in answering a question on how he would want to be remembered after eight years as governor, simply replied, “Certainly not for the fights”.

Obaseki had in the past years in office fought several political battles with his political benefactors and opponents.

He noted that the people-oriented programmes and policies put in place by his administration made the electorate reelect him in the 2020 governorship election.

He added that the same programmes and policies made the people to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Asue Ighodalo in the September 21, 2024 governorship election.

He said, “I feel appreciated. The response from our people is quite commendable, and no wonder people came out and voted for us the way they did.

“I can’t be tired of saying thank you for the opportunity to serve.

“I believe in first doing the work before celebrating. We will try to commission as much as we can, but I don’t think we will be commissioning as much as 10 percent of what we have done, and that is why the people came out and voted for us.”

Speaking on the commissioned Airport Road Parks and Garden Project, he disclosed that plans have been made to ensure the sustainability of the garden, which is expected to attract residents on a daily basis.

“When we thought about all these public spaces and how to manage them. We also created a revenue model to support them.

“For instance, all the revenue from billboards around here will come into managing them, and Prestige Hotel will also support the park. The military has also promised to support in terms of security,” said.
