Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State directed the Ministry of Housing over the weekend to initiate the process of terminating contracts where contractors have failed to demonstrate reasonable commitment.

Governor Nwifuru issued the directive while inspecting ongoing projects across the state as part of the activities marking his one-year anniversary. He gave the directive during his inspection of the housing estate at Eziulo Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

While the governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, he decried the slow pace of work on the site.

He also stressed his commitment to fulfiling promises made to the people, stating, “We promised our people that we will punish our enemies with gigantic projects, and we believe God will be with us to fulfil that promise.”

The projects visited included the reconstruction of Chuba Okadigbo International Airport Runway, Nkaleke Unuphu road, Ogbaga-Nwofe Road, Traditional Rulers’ Duplex, Pilot School, and Housing Estate for Amaeze/Izzo Communities at Ezillo, as well as Ebonyi State Pipe Production Company.

At the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, the governor disclosed that the project was awarded at a cost of N17.5 billion, out of which over N15 billion has been paid, with the balance to be paid upon completion.

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of work on the runway, the governor charged the contractor to fulfil the promise of completing the project within the next 10 days.

“Since our manifesto is anchored on continuity and consolidation , it has become obligatory that we complete the Runway and put it to the standard that everybody will be proud of,” he said.

Governor Nwifuru, who was conducted around the State Pipe Production Company by the Commissioner for Commerce Oguzor Offia Nwali , said the revitalisation of the company aligns with his resolve to industrialise the state with a view to creating employment.

The governor led members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, elders council, founding fathers and other critical stakeholders to embark on the inspection tour.
