Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issues ultimatum to Mr. Osarodion Ogie to resign as the Secretary to Edo State Government forthwith, or face “serious civil and criminal actions”.

The state chairman of APC, Jarrett Tenebe , issued the ultimatum in a statement Thursday evening, accused Ogie who is the Running mate to Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 21 September governorship election of “dissipating and misusing the lean resources of Edo State, for his private election campaign.”

He noted that Ogie office as SSG is a violation of the public service rules which prohibits a public servant from using public resources to fund private purposes and is patently unacceptable and an affront to the good people of the State.

According to him, “By remaining in office, while posing as running mate in the gubernatorial election, Mr. Ogie is also in violation of the public service rules which prohibits a public servant from using public resources to fund private purpose.

“Ogie is currently earning salary and other official benefits as Secretary to the State Government, even while pursuing a private ambition to become deputy governor. He’s using official vehicles and other government logistics to service his electioneering campaign. This is totally unacceptable and a waste of taxpayers’ money. This is the very definition of corruption.

“As an unelected public officer, Mr Ogie is hereby given an ultimatum to resign forthwith as his continued stay in office is a clear violation of all known rules of decency and ethics.

“No unelected public servant should be allowed to do this. It’s patently wrong and a deservice to the state and the long suffering people of Edo State,” he added.

Responding, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, dismissed APC’s allegation and ultimatum.

According to him, Ogie could still serve as SSG till 30 days to the election, in accordance to the Electoral Act.

Nehikhare advised the opposition party to tell the people of the state what their party’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo will do for the state if èlé Ted in the forth-coming election.
