    The Edo State Government has declared Friday, September 20, a work-free day to allow workers and residents to travel to their voting locations ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21.

    In a statement released by Joseph Eboigbe, the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), the government reassured the public that necessary security arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election.

    Eboigbe stated, “This is to inform the general public that Friday, September 20, has been declared a work-free day. This will give workers and other voters the chance to travel to their respective polling areas for the governorship election.”

    He also wished everyone safe travels and emphasized that security measures have been set up to guarantee a smooth electoral process.

    In related news, nine political parties in Edo State have merged with the All Progressives Congress (APC), boosting the party’s chances of success in the upcoming election.

    The Assembly of Registered Political Parties in Edo, represented by Sam Arase, chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the state, declared their full support for APC’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

    Among the merging parties are the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Accord (A), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Party (APP), and the Social Democratic Party of Nigeria (SDP).

    A total of 17 political parties will participate in the Edo State governorship election, with candidates hoping to succeed the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who is supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
