Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr Joan Osa Oviawe, has said the reforms entrenched in the education sector, by the present administration have formed the roadmap for providing quality and effective education to children in Edo State.
Oviawe in her opening remarks at the ongoing Edo International Book and Arts festival, said the target of the Ministry of Education and the Education Ecosystem under the reforms is to ensure that children must know how to read by the time they leave ECCDE3 by Primary one so that by the time they are in Primary six, they can read and write fluently.
According to her, the progress made in Literacy and numeracy in Edo State is the reason the state is now considered globally as an accelerated country like Brazil, Pakistan, Ecuador, Rwanda, Kenya, and Mozambique.
“What I’m saying now is already happening across our public schools in Edo State, we want to continue to make progress in our literacy target”
The commissioner has called on stakeholders in the Education sector to embrace the ongoing Education Week as it is providing a veritable platform to share ideas on ways to move education forward in the country.
Activities lined up for Education Week are the Teachers for Technology Conference, Parents Summit, Dr Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Lecture, BRACED Commission Education Summit, and Students Leadership Conference and Academic Showcase.
The week-long event will round off on Sunday, June 16th with an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Of Education.
