Edo State Government has declared Friday, Sept. 20, a work-free day to enable workers and others to travel to their voting areas ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
A statement by Joseph Eboigbe, Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), reassured that security measures had been provided to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
Eboigbe said: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Edo State Government has declared Friday, September 20, a work-free day.
“This is to enable workers and other electorates to travel to their voting areas ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the State.”

“Government wishes everyone journey mercies and reassures that security measures have been provided to ensure a free, fair and credible election, ” he said.
Meanwhile, nine political groups in Edo State unanimously folded into the All Progressives Congress (APC), increasing the party’s prospects of winning the governorship election.
On behalf of the Assembly of Registered Political Parties in Edo State, Sam Arase, the Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) chapter in Edo State, declared that the parties support and are confident in the election of the APC candidate.
The National Rescue Movement (NRM), Accord (A), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Party (APP), and Social Democratic Party of Nigeria (SDP) are among the parties.
The parties mandated their members to work towards the enthronement of the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, as the next governor of Edo State.
Seventeen parties are vying for the Edo State governorship.
Okpebholo and other governorship candidates in the state would be hoping to succeed the outgoing Governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, who supports the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo.
