From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
The Chairman, Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa , has described as untrue the report that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated investigation against the National Working Committee of the party, which is led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Dungurawa, while speaking to journalists in Kano, insisted that the report was a baseless rumour, noting that it was not the first time that such a rumour had been flown by the opposition.
“All we can say is let them continue with the rumour, but whether they like it or not, Kwankwaso remains the only person with integrity, respect, popularity and capacity that can govern this country,” he declared even as he noted that such a rumour would only increase his popularity rather than deduct from it.
“Kwankwaso is the most decent politician in Nigeria because he served as Deputy Speaker, Defence Minister, Governor, peacefully, and there was nowhere they had found him wanting,” he stated.
It could be recalled that a few days ago, a national paper had reported that the EFCC had commenced investigation into the management of N2.5b election campaign fund managed by the National Working Committee of the party led by Kwankwaso.
The National Secretary of a faction of the NNPP, Oginni Olaposi, had confirmed to the paper that he was personally invited by the EFCC to Abuja to make a statement and clarifications on the petition he signed on behalf of the party against the National Working Committee.
