    The Alawe of Alawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, on Friday bemoaned activities of quacks and impostors parading as officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to dupe consumers in the community.

    Alabi, who is the ex-chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, urged the firm to provide meters to its willing customers in Ilawe Ekiti and other surrounding towns in Ekiti State “to ease payment of bills as well as check quacks and impostors parading as workers from duping the people and the company.”

    According to a statement titled, “Alawe urges BEDC to provide meters to ease payment of electricity bills in Ekiti,” by the monarch’s media aide, Ajibade Olubunmi, Alabi spoke at Ilawe Ekiti during a meeting with BEDC officials led by its Regional Manager, Mr Sunday Ofiebor.

    The statement quoted Alawe as saying, “The estimated billing system currently in use by your company has become outdated and needs to be eradicated. Provision of meters will ease payment by the people and generate funds for the company.’’

    It added that the monarch urged the BEDC to ensure steady electricity supply to justify bill payment, assuring of the cooperation of people of Ilawe Ekiti to promptly pay their bills.

    Responding, Ofiebor urged the traditional ruler to help in building cordial relationship between the company and Ilawe people, stating that the management would get rid of anybody caught engaging in unprofessional act while carrying out his or her duties.

    He promised to involve quarter chiefs in capturing other members of the community yet on the company’s billing system, promising to engage in constant communication with the chiefs on steps taken on tariff payment and other matters to sustain the existing cordial relationship.
