    More people have begun to express fears about elevator rides following the recent tragic incident at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos State, where a doctor, Vwaere Diaso, fell to her death.

    The elevator conveying Diaso reportedly fell from the 10th floor of the hospital building.

    A number of people have taken to social media to share their thoughts on elevators being death traps.

    A Queen Eva on Facebook wrote; “When I was doing a job that allows me to enter people’s houses that’s when I realised that elevators are death traps, especially here in Lagos.”

    However, here are 10 safety tips for elevator rides:

    1. Stand clear of the elevator doors and stand aside for exiting passengers.

    2. Watch your steps as you enter through the elevator door. Indicate your preferred floor number using the elevator buttons.

    3. Stand clear of the doors and keep clothes and carry-ons away from the opening.

    4. Use the hand rail in the elevator, if available. Pay attention to the floor indications.

    5. Don’t overcrowd elevators. When an elevator is full, wait for the next one.

    6. When you arrive your floor, exit immediately.

    7. If the doors do not open when the elevator stops, push the Door Open button.

    8. Never try to exit a stalled elevator without help from an emergency responder as indicated in the elevator.

    9. Keep the elevator clean for the safety of other users.

    10. In cases of emergency, remain calm and patient.
