    LAGOS – The Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Mr. Tony Elumelu has recommended to President Bola Tinubu that enhancing security is crucial in addressing the current food scarcity issue and attracting investments into the country.

    Elumelu shared this guidance during the Annual Conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, in Abuja on Tuesday, emphasizing the need to focus on security to safeguard our citizens, ensure food availability, encourage investments, and promote trade.

    “Insecurity has escalated into a nationwide emergency that requires swift and resolute action. Our people should be able to farm without obstacles, live peacefully, and carry out their daily activities and businesses without fear; these are the basic rights of every citizen,” he emphasized.

    Elumelu praised the banking industry as a vital pillar of Nigeria’s economy, noting that its evolution in recent decades stands out as a success story for the nation.

    He highlighted that the sector offers employment to millions, extends essential financial assistance to numerous businesses, and generates profits for numerous shareholders.

    Tinubu, in his address at the conference, emphasized the importance of focusing on capacity building, talent development, and empowering the youth as key drivers of the country’s economic advancement.

    Delivered by his deputy, Kashim Shettima, the President underscored his administration’s commitment to bolstering the economy.

    He mentioned that the government is currently training three million Nigerian youths in digital technology and essential skills, with intentions to place them in innovative companies nationwide.

    “We are dedicated to reaching a 70 percent digital literacy rate by 2027 through collaborative efforts and innovative approaches.

    Emphasizing the importance of capacity building, talent development, and empowering the youth, he highlighted that these are the driving forces of our nation’s progress, essential for equipping our youth with the necessary skills, knowledge, and opportunities to propel our country forward,” he affirmed.
