The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that the ban on use of ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags for air travelers was by Ethiopian Airlines.

According to FAAN, Ethiopian Airlines, internally instituted the policy.

Reports had mistakenly attributed the ban on usage of Ghana-Must-Go bags to FAAN due to a misinterpretation of a circulated memo.

A clearer version of the document, addressed to FAAN as a notification, revealed the accurate details.

FAAN emphasized through its official communication that it was Ethiopian Airlines, not the regulatory agency, that initiated the prohibition.

Ethiopian Airlines,  cited concerns about  shape of the bags  and consequently, damage to conveyor belts at airports when loaded by travellers.

The airline specified that the use of ‘Ghana must go bags’ has been restricted unless properly packed in a carton or hardcover rectangular container.

Ethiopian Airlines said the measure was aimed at preventing damages that have led to significant costs for it in the past few years.

Ethiopian Airlines therefore  requested passengers’ cooperation to ensure smooth flight operations and minimize disruptions caused by damaged conveyor belts.
