LAGOS – Ethiopian Airlines Group on Sunday returned its daily passenger flights to the historic city of Axum.
The airline in a statement by its media consultant in Nigeria, said that it resumed its flights to the city of Axum following the successful completion of extensive maintenance work on both the airfield and terminal facilities, with contract amount of 290 million Ethiopian Birr (ETB).
The airline insisted that it was committed to providing unparalleled services on this route, connecting travellers to the rich cultural heritage of Axum.

Commenting on the return, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ethiopian Airlines said that the airline was pleased for reinstating its flights to Axum, a cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its cultural significance.

Tasew explained that the airline’s return to Axum with a daily service after the massive investment on airport facility maintenance was a testament to its commitment to boost air transportation services in the country.
“As a national carrier, we are determined to invest in and improve our flight offerings nationwide,” he said.
Axum is home to the ancient Axumite Kingdom, and it is a significant symbol of Ethiopia as an origin to one of the oldest civilisations.
Ethiopian currently serves 20 domestic destinations.
