    A Aormer Minister of State for Defence, Colonel Austin Akobundu (retd), has promised the people of Abia Central Senatorial Zone quality representation if elected Senator.

    Akobundu who was a former Minister of Defence under the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan administation made the promise during a press conference and presentation of manifesto on Tuesday in Umuahia.

    Akobundu, a former Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and  a former South-East Zonal Vice Chairman of the party, said his mission to the senate is a divine calling which he said he will use to better the lots of his people.

    He said his campaign is centered on citizens’ empowerment, human capital

    and infrastructure development which shall drive stronger production

    of goods and services through effective legislation and oversight function.

    Akobundu said in putting together his manifesto, he received inputs from

    professionals in various fields, community leaders, the traditional institution, youth groups, student bodies, faith-based organizations, women groups, and all other stakeholders in a shared commitment towards the collective good of Abia central senatorial district.

    The Secretary to Abia State Government, Chris Ezem said a win for Akobundu will be a plus for Abia, as the state will be sending integrity, discipline, experience and honesty to the senate.

    He said the former Defence Minister having served the PDP in many capacities has all it takes to represent Abia Central properly, stressing that his regimented background will add the needed impetus.
