The government has failed to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive through policies geared towards promoting business growth and sustainability.

This was the position of speakers at the Lagos Career Fair organised by Covenant Capital of the Covenant Nation tagged: ‘The 21st Century Workplace: Adapting to the Changing Dynamics,’ in Lagos, yesterday.

The Co-founder and Managing Partner of Sahel Capital, Mezuo Nwuneli, who was the keynote speaker, stressed the importance of an enabling environment in creating job opportunities.
Nwuneli stated that the more policies are structured to encourage business expansion, the better for the nation, as it would aid job creation.

Founder of Theios People Resources, Ema Clark-Esi, urged the younger generation to be adaptable and stay attuned to the skills required for today’s opportunities.

“A lot of the skills that a lot of the young ones are coming up with are skills of yesterday. I was listening to some commentary on the news the other day, and what they’re saying is that all the computers that we are using now are going to be obsolete by November because Microsoft is making new computers that come with AI. How many of our young ones are ready for what is to come?”

Head, Covenant Capital Department, Obafemi Darabidan, disclosed that the idea of the Career Fair stemmed from the need to respond to a need which is about job creation.

Darabidan noted that there is a need to do more beyond complaining about the notion that there are no jobs.

Group Chief Operating Officer, FCMB, Gbolahan Joshua, called on the government to provide an enabling environment and policies that are geared towards business sustainability.

He urged the government to continue to do more in the area of investing in education to ensure that the youths are equipped with the right skills needed by businesses.

On her part, Head of Product, Jump n Pass, Korede Omolehinwa urged employers to eliminate administrative bureaucracy to enable young professionals to contribute their meaningful quota to the development of the organisations as they have a lot to offer.
