    Fake drug: Trial of Indian businessman adjourned

    A Federal High Court in Lagos, has adjourned the trial of an Indian businessman, Inderpreet Singh and his co-defendant, Omorodion Sylvester till June 11.

    Singh and Sylvester are being tired on an eighth count charge of counterfeiting, possession of a fake drug, selling a banned and unregistered drug.

    In the charge filed before the court by the NAFDAC prosecutor, B.Simon, it was alleged that “Omorodion Sylvester, male, adult, 41 years old, of No 2, Surulere Street, Volts, Ojo, Lagos on or about the 20th day of February, 2021, within the jurisdiction of the Court did aid Inderpreet Singh, Male, adult, 49 years old, of 306, Apple Estate, Festac, Lagos, to sell fake drug to wit:-
    Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets 225mg and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(C) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provisions)Act, Cap. C34, LFN, 2004 and punishable under Section 3 (1) of the same Act”.

    The charge also alleged that “Inderpreet Singh, Male, adult, 49 years old, of 306, Apple Estate, Festac, Lagos, was found to be in “possession of fake drug to wit:- Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets 225mg
    and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(a) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provisions)Act, Cap. C34, LFN, 2004 and punishable under Section 3 (1) of the same Act”.

    The two defendants who pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned before the court are currently on bail.
