Fake herbalists in police net for defrauding women of 876k

Two self-styled herbalists have been arrested by police operatives in Edo state for allegedly defrauding two women the sum of N876,000, under false pretence of providing spiritual help for them.
The suspects, Lukman Ganiyu (28) and Ojo Oluwaseun (38) were arrested at Ugbiyokho, a suburb community in Benin, the State capital, by the surveillance team of the state police command.
The Command Spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, who paraded the suspects, said they were arrested on 2 February,
while investigating a case of obtaining money under false pretense, reported by the victims, Mrs Joy Akhiobare and Mrs. Ijeoma Blessing Kalu.
He disclosed that the duo went to the suspects to seek spiritual help over the deteriorating state of their businesses when they were duped by the suspects.
“The suspects under pretence of spiritual help deceitfully obtained N850,000 from Joy Akhiobare and N26,000 from Ijeoma Blessing Kalu respectively,” the police spokesman said.

He added that the charm which the suspects used to deceive and threaten the women that they would die if they reported the issue to anybody, was recovered.
In an interview with journalists, one of the suspect, Ganiyu Lukeman, who hails from Ekiti Sate, said he only duped the women of N236, 000.
“I duped the women of N236,000. I came to Benin on January 16, and I was arrested February 2. One of the women came to meet me that she had problems in her marriage and that I should help her, being a native doctor,” he confessed.
Ganiyu said the woman later brought one of her friends to him, who said she wanted a money ritual.
