FG donates N500 million to Nigerian Legion as Tinubu commends Armed Forces

The Federal Government, on Tuesday, donated N500 million to the Nigerian Legion, as President Bola Tinubu lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces for their steadfast commitment to tackling the nation’s security challenges.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, announced the donation during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund Launch held at the State House, Abuja.
President Tinubu acknowledged that the administration’s reforms and economic policies would have little effect without the stabilising efforts of the armed forces.
“No matter the economic theories we propose, without security, peace and development cannot thrive,” President Tinubu stated.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the nation, he added, “The challenges are substantial, yet you remain this country’s first line of defence. Thank you for your patriotic dedication to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress.”
President Tinubu reaffirmed that the welfare of security personnel remains a priority for his administration. He honoured those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country’s unity, pledging that their efforts would not be forgotten.
“We are here to remember our fallen heroes, the men and women who gave their lives for Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress. We are dedicated to preserving their values, beliefs, and the unity of our nation, passing on a legacy of integrity to the next generation.

“It is a great honour to launch the emblem again. The welfare of our Armed Forces personnel will always be a top priority. I extend my gratitude to each of you,” Tinubu remarked.
Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s unwavering support of both serving and retired members of the armed forces, as well as their families.
“Unveiling this Emblem symbolises hope and reminds us of our shared duty to uplift our Armed Forces and their families. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is more than a ceremony; it is a call to action.
“This Appeal Fund, launched today, is essential for providing critical support to our veterans and their families. The funds raised will support welfare programs, including healthcare, education, and financial assistance,” Badaru stated.
Retired Major General Abdulmalik Jibril, national chairman of the Nigerian Legion, praised President Tinubu for his continuous support, describing the donation as unprecedented. He added, “With this support, our families will not be left destitute or reduced to begging.”
Also in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs, leaders of other security and paramilitary agencies, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion.
