The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has flagged off the N20bn construction of two flyover bridges in Bauchi State.

Fintiri, accompanied by his counterparts in North East, said that with the type of projects he has seen in the state, including the two flyovers that would be constructed, the people of the state made no mistake electing the Governor, Bala Mohammed as their leader twice.

He said that other overhead bridges would not only project the aesthetic looks of the metropolis but also a solution to vehicular traffic which eases movement.

“Having one in Bauchi is therefore a good decision that would continue to define the vision of the governor in solving the problem of not only the present-day Bauchi but the Bauchi of tomorrow,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi said he is not a demolisher but a moderniser.

Mohammed was reacting to insinuations by some quarters that he is a demolisher by demolishing some structures to execute some infrastructural projects in the state.

According to him, the two overhead bridges which would be constructed at two strategic locations of Wunti and Central market areas at the cost of N20 billion, would give Bauchi metropolis an outlook of modernity.

He said it would also transform the state’s skyline and together with the upgraded government house and other strategic developments, the landscape of the state would be changed.

Mohammed explained that the project would radically redefine urban transportation to give the people of the state as well as visitors a completely new experience.

He added that the project was informed by a number of factors like growth in population, encroachment of road corridors and the imperative of recovering the city from the chaotic uncontrolled and unplanned expansion.

“The groundbreaking of the construction of two flyovers in Bauchi state marks another milestone in the infrastructural development and component of urban renewal in our administration,” Mohammed said.

“We really appreciate the people of Bauchi, within a very short time and notice, so many developments here have been demolished.

“People are calling me Mr demolishing, I am not a Mr demolishing, I’m a Mr modernity.

“We thank our people for the sacrifices they are making to make sure that we achieve our vision and we wish to state that this project is in fulfillment of our promise to make sure that we make Bauchi state better.”
