An outbreak of fire has razed several shops at the popular Kantin Kwari textile market in the metropolis of c.
The inferno occured at about 7 pm last night at gidan Inuwa Mai Mai Bayajidda Street in the market, affecting an unspecified number of buildings situated in the middle of the market.
Speaking to newsmen about the tragedy, the Chairman Kantin Kwari Traders Market Association, Ambassador Balarabe Tatari explained the tragic situation was brought under control by a combined team of the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, private companies and reinforcement from Sabon gari, Dawanau and Singa markets.
He disclosed that officers from the DSS, Njgeria police and other relevant security agencies were equally on ground to provide security around the market area
Balarabe decried over congestion and lack of access roads within the market which he said led to the escalation of the inferno.
He urged the state government to redouble its efforts aimed at removing structures obstructing roads and drainages in the market.
