Fire guts one-storey building in Anambra
Some properties have been destroyed in a fire outbreak that occurred at a one-storey building situated at Atani Road by Uga Junction, Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The cause of the inferno has yet to be ascertained but it was gathered that the fire started in the early hours of Friday.
An eyewitness in the area said the fire started from a section at the top floor and started burning before the arrival of the men of the state fire service, who battled to control it and prevented it from escalating to other structures around the premises.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the state Fire Service Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, said firefighters were deployed immediately to the scene of the incident and they battled to contain the fire.
Chiketa said, “A distress call was received by the Anambra State Fire Service at 05:17 hours of today, Friday, June 7, 2024. The fire incident occurred on the top floor of a one-storey building inside GMO Company, situated at Atani road by Uga junction, Okpoko.
“The Anambra State gallant firefighters were deployed immediately, with a fire truck to the scene of the fire, they fought and contained it. Though the top floor of the one-storey building was affected there were many savings, including other structures and properties inside the company’s premises. The Firemen were able to control the fire from escalating beyond the top floor.
“The cause of the fire is not yet ascertained. While the firemen departed the scene of the fire at 11:57 hours of today.”
He advised residents to always ensure timely contact with the Fire Service in any fire-related situation so as to reduce the extent of damage before the arrival of the Firefighters.
“Once you notice any fire outbreak at that little stage, do well to contact the Fire Service immediately. Do this to help the Fire Service respond and serve us better. Be safety conscious because fire kills but can be prevented,” he added.
