    First Lady showers Lagos elders with Festive cheer: ₦50M disbursed in Renewed Hope Initiative

    The spirit of generosity swept through Lagos on Tuesday as the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, launched the second edition of the “Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme” (RHIESS), delighting 250 senior citizens with increased cash support of ₦200,000 each.

    Held at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, the vibrant event embodied the theme of “Total Wellness: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle.”

    Representing the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State, radiated warmth and compassion as she conveyed Senator Tinubu’s heartfelt commitment to improving the lives of elderly Nigerians.

    The initiative saw a substantial upgrade this year, doubling the cash support from ₦100,000 to ₦200,000 per recipient.

    A total of ₦50 million was disbursed to the elderly beneficiaries in Lagos, with Senator Tinubu announcing that ₦1.9 billion would be distributed nationwide to brighten the festive season for thousands of senior citizens.

    “I commend the efforts of our State First Ladies, RHI State Coordinators, and partners who have made this day possible,” the First Lady stated.

    “This initiative underscores the Federal Government’s dedication to prioritising the well-being of our elderly population,” Mrs. Tinubu added.

    The Lagos State chapter of the initiative wasn’t limited to financial support. In partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), the beneficiaries were registered for one year of free healthcare services at LASHMA-accredited hospitals.

    Additionally, they received health education, blood pressure screenings, eye tests, and other wellness checks, making the event a holistic approach to elderly care.

    Senator Tinubu also encouraged the elders to prioritise their health. “As we celebrate this festive season, I urge you to stay hydrated, eat nutritious meals, engage in light physical activities, and cherish precious moments with family and friends,” she advised.

    Overwhelmed with joy, one of the recipients, Alhajah Mojisola Aduke Alabi, described the support as a lifeline during difficult times.

    “I am deeply grateful to the First Lady of Nigeria for her unwavering commitment to the elderly,” she said., adding that “The Renewed Hope Initiative is a blessing to us and many vulnerable Nigerians.”

    The Elderly Support Scheme is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, a flagship project of Senator Tinubu’s office aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable groups across Nigeria.

    With the second edition of RHIESS, the First Lady has reaffirmed her mission to uplift and empower the elderly, making this festive season truly unforgettable for Lagos elders and their counterparts nationwide.
