    A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, is dead.

    Lamorde was 61 years old at the time of his death.

    Mr. Lamorde passed away in Egypt on Sunday morning, where he had travelled for medical treatment, Premium Times reported citing unnamed close associates.

    Born on December 20, 1962, Mr. Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in 1986. He rose through the ranks and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.

    Mr. Lamorde’s tenure as EFCC chairman spanned from 2011 to 2015.

    Mr. Lamorde’s profile on the EFCC website states that he was the commission’s third substantive chairman. He initially assumed the role in an acting capacity following the removal of Farida Waziri by President Goodluck Jonathan in November 2011.

    The Senate confirmed his appointment as the official chairman in February 2012.
