Former Napoli and Inter Milan striker, Arturo Di Napoli, has voiced his opinion on Romelu Lukaku’s role as the preferred striker for Antonio Conte’s side, placing him ahead of Victor Osimhen.
Di Napoli believes Lukaku is a better fit for Conte’s system, especially following Osimhen’s departure from Napoli.
Osimhen had a fallout with Napoli’s management after pushing for a transfer, which led to his loan move to Galatasaray. In response, Napoli brought in Lukaku to fill the gap left by Osimhen. So far, the move seems to have benefited both players, as each has helped their teams rise to the top of their respective leagues.
Di Napoli explained that Lukaku’s style complements Conte’s strategy perfectly. He expressed doubts about whether Osimhen could have the same impact under Conte’s system.

“For Conte’s balance, Lukaku is essential. Whenever Conte and Lukaku work together, they perform at their best. Lukaku creates space, scores goals, and allows other players opportunities to score. He is different from Osimhen. Right now, we need to focus on Lukaku, who, compared to Osimhen, is more of a team player. He might score fewer goals than Osimhen, but the overall team benefits more,” Di Napoli said during an interview on 1 Football Club, a radio show broadcast on 1 Station Radio, as reported by Tutto Napoli.
In the absence of Osimhen, Napoli’s manager, Cologno, has expressed confidence in their title chances. He believes that if Napoli can compete with last season’s Scudetto winners, Inter Milan, they could secure the league title.
“Inter is still the team to beat. They have been more vulnerable in defense compared to last year, but it was hard to repeat their previous performance. Last season, they had an extraordinary campaign without making mistakes. Nevertheless, Inter remains the favorite for the Scudetto,” Cologno added.
With Conte now leading Napoli and the team not participating in any European competitions, they are seen as strong contenders for the league title.
