    The Dr Chioma Awuzie Foundation (DCAF), a non-governmental organisation, on Sunday offered scholarship to 17 indigent students of public tertiary institutions in Anambra State.

    The students, who received a cheque of N100,000 each, were drawn from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam and the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

    Others were from Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, Federal College of Education, Umunze and Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.

    In her address, Dr Chioma Awuzie, convener of the foundation said that the annual Scholarship Scheme and and Charity Programme would be expanded to other indigent students across the the state.

    Awuzie said the scholarship was geared towards championing and promoting access to quality education and support the school fees of indigent students

    “Aside the scholarship scheme, the foundation also touched lives through medical outreaches, youth and women empowerment, pregnancy and childbirth palliatives as well as support for widows, the elderly and inmates in correctional centers.

    “This charitable endeavour is to mark my 51st birthday. I congratulate our 17 scholarship recipients for their hard work, dedication and resilience; and we are immensely proud to support their academic journey.

    “Our goal is to create sustainable change that uplifts individuals and transforms lives and communities,” she said.

    Also speaking, Dr Uche Onyegbu, Acting Rector, Okopoly, commended the foundation for investing in the educational aspirations of the youths, especially the financially vulnerable.

    Onyegbu urged well meaning individuals, corporate organisations, local and international donors to support the foundation in the quest to better the lives of youths.

    The rector also urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to attain the highest level of education.

    One of the beneficiaries, Miss Assumpta Agwuncha, HND 1 student at Okopoly, thanked the convener of the foundation for supporting their dreams and aspirations.

    “I’m the one sponsoring myself in school, having lost my dad seven year ago. This scholarship is a miracle and answered prayers,”she said.
