Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has suspended the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon Barrister Otonye Briggs.
Briggs’ suspension was contained in a statement issued by Governor Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nelson Chukwudi, on Tuesday.
The announcement said the chairman’s suspension was with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the governor has directed Mr. Bitebobo Nelson Amieye, to immediately take over as chairman of the council.
No reason was given for Barrister Briggs’ suspension and his replacement.
The governor also directed him to hand over council property in his possession his successor.
“Barrister Otonye Briggs is hereby directed to hand over all council property in his possession to the Caretaker Committee Chairman.”
His suspension came barely three weeks to the forthcoming local government council election in the state.
