Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, on Thursday, expressed confidence in the ability of Benue women to excel in leadership roles.
Alia made the remark at the Government House, Makurdi, during the swearing-in ceremony of Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah as the first female Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Benue.
The governor stressed the significance of women’s contributions to society and noted that Barr. Aber’s appointment reflects his administration’s commitment to promoting merit and diversity in leadership.
“Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah’s appointment as the first female SSG in Benue State is a testament to the confidence this administration has in the capabilities of Benue women. We value the vital roles women play, and this appointment underlines our resolve to prioritise merit and inclusivity in leadership,” the governor remarked.
He further expressed confidence in Barr. Aber’s ability to fulfill her responsibilities, noting her key role in coordinating government activities, fostering collaboration between ministries, and driving initiatives for sustainable development.
Alia assured the new SSG of his administration’s full support and urged public servants, stakeholders, and citizens to work together for the progress of the state.
In her response, Barr. Aber expressed gratitude to God and Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve as the first female SSG.
She pledged to carry out her duties with diligence, aligning her efforts with the administration’s vision to create a more prosperous Benue.
Aber’s appointment followed the resignation from office of the former SSG, Prof. Joseph Alakali.
