Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bolstering support for troops engaged in combating banditry in the region. Governor Lawal made this pledge on Thursday while presiding over the state’s Security Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.
The Security Council, which includes heads of various security agencies such as the military and the Department of State Services (DSS), convened to discuss the security situation in the state and the ongoing extensive military operations against bandits.
In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was noted that the meeting focused on evaluating the current security situation, assessing progress, and identifying areas needing intensified efforts to ensure the safety and security of the residents of Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal praised the security forces for their achievements so far, stating, “Today’s meeting will evaluate the state’s security situation, assess our progress, and pinpoint areas requiring intensified efforts to enhance the security of our people’s lives and property.”
He emphasized the priority his administration places on security, saying, “As I have always emphasized to the Security Council, the priority of my administration is the security of lives and property of the people. Therefore, we are always prepared to provide all the necessary support to various security agencies in the state to help them carry out their duties diligently and effectively.”
The Governor expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the military for the recent deployment of additional troops to Zamfara, a strategic move aimed at eradicating banditry. He remarked, “I want to thank the Federal Government and the military for deploying additional troops to Zamfara. This strategic move aims to eliminate all bandits and we have started seeing results.”
Highlighting recent successes, Lawal commended the security forces for the arrest of a group of kidnappers in Gusau and the rescue of kidnapped victims across various parts of the state, including Gusau, Maradun, Kauran Namoda, and other Local Government Areas. “These achievements are a testament to the effectiveness of the ongoing military operations in the state,” he added.
Governor Lawal’s renewed commitment to supporting security operations reflects his administration’s resolve to restore peace and security in Zamfara, a state that has been significantly impacted by banditry and related criminal activities.
