Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Bashir Daihatu, has praised Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for championing 21st century education revolution in northern Nigeria.
The former Minister of Power and Steel, spoke on Wednesday, during the opening ceremony of Kano state Education Recovery Conference, held at Dangote Business School (DBS), Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The two-day conference with the theme: “Repositioning Education in Kano State: Navigating the Path to Excellence,” was organized by Kano State government, in collaboration with ACF and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) which is under the British High Commission.
The elder statesman who is also the Chairman of Freedom Radio, regretted that, “education in Kano, and the entire northern Nigeria has been in a state-of-emergency in the past 25 years.
” It is only Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who has demonstrated the political will to declare a state-of-emergency on education.
“We know the problem. It has always been there, but we have been moving backward, because successive administrations believe (that) their successors will come to solve it.
“Today, Governor Yusuf has decided to solve the problem; and we can only wish him well, with prayers and advise whenever it is needed.

“We also expect other northern Governors to follow Governor Yusuf’s foot-steps. My dear Governor and son, you are winning this war, but you have other wars within the war that you must win.
“One of them is the menace of out-of-school children. The problem of out-of-school children is growing everyday in northern Nigeria. Even those who are in school can no longer make us proud because the impacts of vocational education is no longer being felt.”
The ACF BoT Chairman, however, expressed optimism that Governor Yusuf is capable of fixing Kano s educational problems, with full support and prayers from all stakeholders.
In his address, Governor Yusuf vowed to match his words with action, as he pledged to muscle all the political towards ensuring that Kano becomes free of out-of-school children.
He said: “Throughout this conference we will engage in rigorous discussion, exchanges of innovative ideas and initiate partnerships that will subsequently shape the future of education in the State and beyond.
“Our goal here is clear: to Identify actionable strategies and policies that will enable us to overcome existing challenges and build a synergistic, inclusive and responsive education system”.
