The Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has clarified that state governors, under the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), do not oppose the approval of a living wage for Nigerian workers.

Speaking at the 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji maintained that the NGF’s stance stressed fiscal federalism to enable states meet financial obligations independently.

Governor Oyebanji affirmed, “The NGF supports the concept of a living wage. No governor opposes the minimum wage. However, it must be implemented in a manner that aligns with fiscal federalism, taking into account each state’s financial capacity. No state desires workforce downsizing; therefore, it is imperative for states to determine sustainable wage levels.”

He encouraged Ekiti State civil servants to explore agriculture, noting that his administration had allocated over 2,000 hectares of land free of charge to interested residents.

“I urge civil servants to form cooperative societies and engage with the Ministry of Agriculture to support our agriculture revolution,” he added.
