ABUJA – Greenlight Initiative has urged women to take an active role in promoting safer and more inclusive mobility in Abuja, particularly for women and individuals with physical challenges.
This was disclosed by the Initiative’s Project Lead, Star Okereh, at a capacity training workshop on road safety for women in Abuja, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) and with support from the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety.
Speaking on the theme “Empowering Women for Safe and Inclusive Mobility in Abuja,” Okereh highlighted the importance of creating a transportation system that caters to the needs of all members of society.
“Our mission is to promote safer roads and build a healthy, sustainable, and inclusive environment.
“This training is part of our broader effort to address the unique challenges women, especially those with physical disabilities, face in their daily movement,” she said.
Okereh explained that the program was designed to equip participants with practical tools and knowledge on safe mobility practices.

She also emphasized the importance of empowering women to become advocates for change within their communities, noting that their voices and experiences are essential in shaping a transportation system that works for everyone.
“This is a collaborative space where we can learn from each other and develop strategies to make mobility safer and more inclusive for women across Abuja and beyond,” she added.
The initiative aims to foster a society where no one is left behind, regardless of their physical ability or gender, and encourages women to lead the charge in advocating for safe, accessible, and inclusive transportation in Nigeria.
Also speaking, Assistant Commandant, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, Braimah Yakubu, representing the FCT NSCDC Commandant Dr. Olusola Odubosun, urge women to use safety tips in order to protect themselves from criminls.
“Women find it difficult to ply the road either on personal cars or on foot, saying that the programme will aensitize them and give them a sense of belonging on how to make use of the road effectively.
“Women been what they are become volatile than the opposite gender and build confidence in themselves while they ply the road.
“Acquire some gadgets for self defence such as papper spray, due to the kind of evnironment we live in, and also getting more conversant with tbeir environment,” he stated.
Others who spoke at the event were Corp Commander of the FRSC, Ngozi Imoroa, who represented the Zonal Commanding Officer, Gwarinpa, H.T Mohammed, among other guests.
