    Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday night abducted nine people, including the councillor representing Odo-Ape ward in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State identified as Hon. Alaba Ope.

    A social media message claimed the victims were kidnapped overnight from different areas of the community.

    An eyewitness who didn’t want his name in print confirmed that the kidnappers struck at about 1 a.m., shooting sporadically to scare people around as they went about their heinous operation..

    The attack has created panic in the area with several commentators admitting to living in fear and not knowing who the next victim will be.

    There are also unconfirmed reports about the ambush of an 18-passenger bus with all its occupants whisked to the bush earlier in the week.

    Another source further confirmed that 5 Gwari, 2 Bassa and one Silas in Agbadu were all kidnapped overnight in the area, calling on the security agencies and state government to help in protecting their lives, properties and also secure the release of the victims.

    Cases of kidnapping have been recorded lately in the local government. Two brothers kidnapped on their family land located in Aluju in Kakun, and another two in Odo-Ape for over nine days now are still in the kidnappers’ den.

    The police were yet to issue a statement on the matter as at press time.

    However, a top government official from the area confirmed the security breach.

    He said all the necessary machinery have been activated to secure the release of the victims and stem the obvious slide to insecurity being witnessed in the Kogi west senatorial zone.
