Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, has urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country as it undergoes a transformative phase, comparing the nation’s current situation to a patient with a broken leg in need of surgery.
Speaking during a special prayer session marking his 60th birthday at the Lagos Community Secretariat Central Mosque, Alausa, Hamzat said that the ongoing reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are crucial to repositioning Nigeria for economic growth.
He called for patience, assuring Nigerians that the nation would soon reap the benefits of the current economic adjustments.
“The situation in Nigeria is like a patient undergoing surgery—painful, but once the process is complete, the patient will heal and walk again. Similarly, Nigeria will emerge stronger and better after these socio-economic reforms,” Hamzat said.
The Deputy Governor also appealed for patience with President Tinubu’s bold economic policies, emphasizing that these measures are necessary for long-term growth.
The event, held in Alausa, attracted dignitaries including Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), among others.
Hamzat stressed the importance of national unity and continuous prayers, pointing out that leading a diverse and complex country like Nigeria requires collaboration, not just criticism.
He noted, “If the nation is not at peace, what will happen to over 200 million citizens? We must come together as a people. National development is not achieved through social media critiques alone—it requires collective effort.”

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to Lagos is extraordinary. Just a few days ago, he reminded me that the Fourth Mainland Bridge project must be completed. The passion he brings to the job is remarkable,” Hamzat said.
In response, Sanwo-Olu paid glowing tributes to his deputy, describing him as “hardworking, dependable, and loyal.”
The governor praised Hamzat’s administrative expertise and noted the strong bond they have shared in office, which he said has been key to transforming Lagos.
“Someone once told me that Dr. Hamzat is the most intelligent deputy governor in Nigeria, and I couldn’t agree more. He has been an invaluable asset, not only to Lagos but to the entire country,” Sanwo-Olu remarked.
Religious leaders at the event also praised Hamzat, describing him as humble, courageous, and God-fearing. They offered prayers for continued wisdom, strength, and success as he serves both Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
Hamzat expressed gratitude to God for another year of life, praying for continued health and prosperity for all. He reaffirmed his commitment to working with Governor Sanwo-Olu to further the growth and development of Lagos State.
