Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on Monday, flagged-off the construction of a 40-bed Trauma Centre at the Ikorodu General Hospital

Also, he commissioned the Lambo Lasunwon Road, a 1.6-kilometre road that connects 4 different communities at Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Speaking at the events which were the brain-child of the Member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Jimi Benson, the Deputy Governor urged Nigerians to always elect representatives who are passionate about the welfare of their constituents.

Hamzat further stated that it is imperative for Nigerians to elect representatives who are committed to the development of their communities and possess good character, to drive growth and progress in their constituencies.

While commending Hon. Jimi Benson for his quality representation and bringing the dividend of democracy to the people of Ikorodu, Hamzat encouraged Nigerians to always elect leaders with inherent integrity, virtue, and a natural ability to foster growth and the development they desire in their community, rather than solely seeking electoral support.

In his words, “It is, for this reason, that I appreciate Hon. Jimi Benson, for what he is doing and that is why we encourage our people to look for good people, not just for the sake of vote but people who are born with good virtue like Jimi Benson to be our representatives. Nigeria belongs to all of us so we must bring something from the Federal to State.”

Speaking further, he urged Nigeria to be optimistic and never say ill of the country, saying that the country is making some progress. Citing the increase in infrastructural development in the state, the Deputy Governor noted that Lagos has made progress in terms of road infrastructure, he added that the State has 9,189 roads which keeps increasing and about 69 percent of the roads have been tarred; which means Lagos is making progress.

Dr. Hamzat said that the state government is committed to building roads that are durable and solid enough to last long.

Speaking on the current situation in the country, Hamzat likened to a patient undergoing surgery which may be painful but, immediately the process is complete and the patient got healed, he or she will walk again. In the same vein Nigeria after the ongoing social economic reform will emerge stronger and better for everyone. He therefore urged Nigerians to keep praying for the president and governors that God should guide them.

Earlier in his address, Member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Jimi Benson stated that the official commissioning ceremony of the newly transformed Lambo Lasunwon Road is a testament to his unwavering commitment to connecting Ikorodu communities and empowering the people.

He added that the milestone is more than just a road; it is a gateway to prosperity, unlocking opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium-scale businesses to flourish. “Our vibrant LASUSTECH students, who call this community home, can now focus on their studies, free from the worries of navigating bad roads, he said.

Commenting on the trauma centre, Benson said that the trauma centre is more needed in the community than an ICU as a trauma centre will give a temporary and emergency reaction to issues as it is more needed to stabilize and save lives.

Also, in his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North, LCDA, Hon. Adeola Banjo noted that for over three decades, the road has served as a crucial lifeline, connecting various towns and communities.

He recalled that the road subjected residents and travelers to countless challenges, especially during the rainy season. The hardships endured were not mere inconveniences; they were tangible struggles that disrupted daily lives with mud, waterlogging, and impassable conditions.

The Deputy Governor, also paid a courtesy visit on visit on the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, at his palace in Ikorodu.
