“We met awkwardly – we bumped into each other while crossing the road and my red lipstick stained his sky-blue shirt. He was rushing to work, I guessed, because when he realized I stained his shirt he was very furious and screamed at me. He abused me and called me a blind bat and I abused him back. Later I apologized and volunteered to buy him a new shirt; it was then he calmed down and began to laugh. I think he thought I was joking. I asked him to follow me to a boutique and he selected a shirt, and when I tried to pay he asked me not to bother.
“We later exchanged contacts. I got to know that he was a doctor. We became friends and got talking. He invited me to his house but I declined several times. I wanted us to take things gradually; there was no need to rush. I was doing hard-girl. I told him I preferred we go for a date, and we went out twice. He had a girlfriend but he said there was nothing serious between them and, besides, she was in Abuja. He complained about how the long distance was affecting their relationship. After going out twice, I decided to pay him a visit at his house. I was relaxed around him and I spent the weekend in his house. I didn’t plan it but I enjoyed his company and I felt at home there. When I was with him, he asked me what I liked in a guy and I told him I liked a guy who surprised me with gifts and would send money to me without me asking him. He didn’t say anything; he was just smiling and nodding his head. After I left his house, he ghosted me. He would busy my calls. When he finally picked, he would tell me he was busy. This was someone who would view all my WhatsApp statuses and would not drop a message to me unlike before.

“After several months, I stopped chatting with him, too. I felt perhaps he had gotten what he wanted – the reason he ghosted me. Then one day, we met in the mall, and he tried to dodge me but our eyes met. I walked up to him and asked him why he stopped talking to me. He told me he didn’t want to have anything deep with me. A time to ask him important questions like “what does he want from you”. They know what they want to do with you from the beginning. It could be that they just wanted to flirt with you. From the beginning, you would know. Perhaps, you were carried away with many fantasies in your mind. Now that you know why he stopped talking to you, brave up and move on. Always ask the next guy important questions before jumping into his ship.
