“I want to clarify that there was no organized effort or threat against the House leadership. I am part of the Novelty Group, a customary assembly tradition that supports the welfare of all members, whether they are newcomers or seasoned representatives.
This group has existed in previous assemblies as well, serving to ensure the general welfare of all members, rather than aiming to undermine or alter leadership. To my knowledge, there was no such intention.”
“When asked about the membership of the Novelty Group, he stated, ‘There are many members, comprising both new entrants and some returning from previous terms.’ He clarified that the group functions as a pressure group within the House, advocating for their entitlements, without any intention to oppose the existing leadership structure. ‘As of now, there is no such intention among anyone,’ he emphasized.”

Speaking on the issue of employment in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Hon. Akinlayo disclosed plans to present a motion which seeks to address the secret employment being offered by various MDAs.
He said: “I have a motion that I want to raise on the floor of the House because it’s disservice to me as .legislator. I’m from Ekiti State, the most educated state in Nigeria, 97 percent of Ekiti people are educated but people are jobless, people went to school, they have 2.1, First Class but they didn’t get employment. So, it’s a disservice to me that I will represent three Local Governments and Agencies of government will be doing secret employment and Parliamentarians will not be aware.
“I intend to raise a motion on the House floor concerning a matter that deeply concerns me as a legislator. Coming from Ekiti State, renowned as one of Nigeria’s most educated states with 97% literacy, it’s disheartening to witness high levels of unemployment among our educated youth. Many have graduated with distinctions like 2.1s and First Class degrees, yet struggle to find suitable employment opportunities. It’s unacceptable that government agencies are conducting secret recruitments without transparency or accountability to parliamentarians representing affected constituencies.”
“It’s a grave disservice to our mandate as representatives of the people. Therefore, I intend to move a motion that no government agency should make employment decisions without the oversight of National Assembly members.
“We are elected to safeguard the interests of our constituents, and it’s unacceptable for agencies to conduct clandestine hiring processes without transparency. We receive constant complaints from the public about undisclosed employments in various agencies. This practice must cease immediately.”
“I advocate for transparency in all ongoing processes—every opportunity should be openly advertised, allowing Nigerians to apply. Selections must be based on merit, not secretive appointments. This ensures fairness, and I’m sure your parents would agree.”
Speaking with Daily Independent correspondent, Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, dismissed reports of a supposed coalition forming against the House leadership.
