HBO’s highly anticipated series House of the Dragon has received the green light for a third season. This news comes just days before the release of its second season.
The renewal was shared via a press release, which confirmed the future of the beloved Game of Thrones spinoff.
This renewal comes as no surprise, given the show’s overwhelming popularity. The first season boasted an impressive average of 29 million viewers per episode across both streaming platforms and television channels. The series had previously been renewed for its second season merely a week following its premiere.
House of the Dragon’s storyline draws its narrative from George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones book Fire & Blood. It follows the Targaryen dynasty on the fictional continent of Westeros. The series is set almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and roughly 100 years after the Targaryens united the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO’s programming and drama series chief, Francesca Orsi, praised the team’s efforts. She said, “George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season.”
“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into creating a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivalled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
