ABUJA – The House of Representatives has raised concerns over alleged discrimination against its leadership following the recent conferment of national honours by President Bola Tinubu.
During plenary on Wednesday, 2nd October, 2024, the lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s decision to award the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, while conferring the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.

The House, through a motion raised by Deputy Spokesperson Philip Agbese, called the act discriminatory and part of an ongoing culture that portrays the House as inferior to the Senate.
The lawmakers have resolved to investigate the issue through an ad-hoc committee chaired by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere.
