The Edo State outgoing Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has revealed what he does not want to be remembered for.
He revealed it on Friday evening, at the commissioning of Airport Road Parks and Gardens, located not too far from the exit gate of the Benin Airport.
When asked by journalists how he would want to be remembered after eight years as governor, Obaseki simply replied “certainly not for the fights”.
The outgoing governor who will hand over to the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo in 10 days (12 November), has fought many political battles close to the end of his first term in office.
A stiff opposition from his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, who was then national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), forced him out of the party.
Obaseki who defected to and got the ticket of the major opposition PDP in the State, where he got re-elected as Governor, had a running battle with some powerful state leaders of the party.

Many people are of the opinion that his fight with members of the Legacy Group caucus in the PDP, led by Chief Dan Orbih, truncated his ambition to produce a successor
Meanwhile, the Governor while commissioning the Airport Road Park and Garden, named the park Prestige Park, after Prestige Hotel that directly faces the park.
He also disclosed that his government had “created a model” to manage and maintain it. According to him, all revenues generated from the billboards from the area would pay for its maintenance.
He also added that Military Hospital and Prestige Hotel that face the facility will provide security and community support respectively.
